Origin
The Netherlands is a flower country. In spring large areas of the country are so colorful that it almost hurts the eye. The three founding fathers of Holland Flores are from this colorful area. Each brings his own expertise in the company; growing techniques, plant knowledge, marketing experience, international trade, flower growing in another continent. During 2017 they found each other and in the beginning of 2018 they started a new, internationally orientated company, Holland Flores.
The newly founded company listed flower growing and sales opportunities in the world and selected Mexico.
History
During 2018 Holland Flores has tested varieties of roses in Mexico to determine which varieties are performing best under Mexican circumstances. These tests were performed in greenhouses in Nuevo Zoquiapam, close to Oaxaca in southern Mexico. 60 varieties have been tested and we now know which roses are suitable for Mexican growing conditions.
We have moved our activities to the vicinity of Ixtapan de la Sal, in the flower growing area SW of Mexico City and are continuing along three lines. The first line is the cultivation of a fairly unique product, three species of Eryngium with unique properties. Eryngiums are intended for use in bouquets. The second line is the composition and sale of bouquets, using flowers of the local farmers as well as of our own production. The advantage of these bouquets in the US market is above all the quality: because they are transported by road we can assure a continuous real wet-chain and cold-chain. Therefore the quality and vase life are much better and more constant than those from Colombia and Ecuador which rely on dry and not-so-cold air freight. This also makes our prices very competitive. The third line is the continuation of our own rose growing activities.
All our products are vigorously tested according to Dutch and European standards and have the qualification “planet proof”.
Environment
Our facilities use eco-friendly equipment. Our plant varieties efficiently capture environmental CO2 in order to reduce the carbon footprint. Holland Flores reduces water consumption by storing water in reservoirs. We use some natural biological means to isolate predators and to raise the quality of the flowers and to protect the environment. Composting and recycling takes place at all our facilities.
Not using air freight or heated and cooled greenhouses give our flowers the lowest carbon footprint of all flowers found year-round in the United States and Canada.
Process
Holland Flores monitors and supervises growing and processing, packing and cooling and transport to obtain the highest quality and the freshest products. A very important parameter is the consistency of the flowers: in all seasons and meteorological conditions, we make sure to maintain the promised quality and quantity we promise.
Social responsibility
Holland Flores believes in the primacy of its people: a company can only be as good as its employees. We provide our farm workers with safe and stimulating working conditions, competitive wages, reliable career planning with access to further education.
We believe in blame-free culture, and encourage all our employees to speak openly of all problems and errors encountered, without attributing blame. The goal is always to avoid making the same mistakes again and to find practical solutions for the encountered challenges.
Holland Flores is an equal opportunity employer and strives to employ a reflection of the social composition of the area.
